METRO Manila mayors are set to go to Malacanang to plead their case and press for control over road and traffic affairs in their respective areas, according to Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos, Jr.
This developed after Malacanang declared that the Metro Manila Development Authority has the sole authority to oversee traffic and garbage management in the metropolis, based on the opinion of the Department of Justice.
But Mayor Abalos insisted that the issue is about the autonomy of local governments.
"We are insisting on our authority to manage our affairs, based on the ideal system that the local government code wants to establish," Abalos said.
He said that he and the other mayors are willing to smooth things over with the MMDA to minimize confusion in the streets.
