According to Gartner, of the total expenditure of $12 billion on information technology (IT) in India in 2002, thirty-three percent was invested in the communications sector and 13 percent in the manufacturing sector.

The other sectors that witnessed increased IT spending are the banking financial services insurance sector, business process outsourcing sector and the government sector. The government sector stands fourth in terms of IT spending. …
