Priest saves woman from drowning in pool

PALMETTO -- A 68-year-old woman was saved from drowning Friday when a priest pulled her out of a pool at Terra Ceia Bay Golf and Tennis Club.

At about noon, paramedics rushed to the condominium complex, said Capt. Greg Thomas of the Manatee County Emergency Medical Services. A priest in the area had pulled out her out, Thomas said.

The priest would not talk to reporters. Thomas didn't know the woman's name, but neighbors poolside identified the woman as Carolyn Voyes.

She was in serious condition when paramedics arrived but did not need CPR, Thomas said. She was alert on the ride to Manatee Memorial Hospital, he said.

Voyes was still at the hospital Friday evening, hospital officials said.
