Shell introduces portal software.

Shell's exploration and production division is implementing three major portal projects as part of a global initiative to standardise businesses processes.
The oil giant is reorganising its upstream business, moving from 41 country organisations to five regional operations.
The globalisation of the company andits processes has a major impact on IT, says Ben Krutzen of the CIO team at Shell Exploration and Production.
And portals are providing a valuable deliverymechanism to support those changes, he says.
'Everything you do with IT youcan potentially provide through a portal,' said Krutzen.
Project GeoPortal covers users of complex technical applications that perform on-screen modelling. The aim is to improve information sharing and collaboration between the specialists working on the systems, without having to physically meet.
