Forty-eight percent of those surveyed by Gallup believe that the news media favor one political party over the other while 46 percent say they favor neither party. Majorities say news organizations protect democracy and stand up for America, but they also say that they don't care about the people they cover and try to cover up their mistakes. When people were told about the information CNN withheld from the American public in order to continue reporting from Iraq, 58 percent said the network should have left the country, and 25 percent said it should have stayed.
