Many Americans believe that U.S. forests are declining, opinion polls show. This reflects gloomy rhetoric from the environmental movement. In truth, however, the U.S. has more acres of forest today than it did in 1920, or in 1990. Significantly more trees are planted each year in this country than die naturally or get harvested. And more land now reverts to forest annually than gets converted to urban uses.
