ITRI vice president calls on biotech firms to be specialized.

Taiwan's biotechnology industry is still at the beginning stage. Currently there are 230 companies in a field made up of firms that need a tremendous amount of money and time to grow and make a return on investment.

To become successful players on the world stage, Taiwan's biotech firms should strive to be "indispensable global partners" and find immediate applications to make money off of their research, said Johnsee Lee, executive vice president of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
