A nominee to the Council of Grand Justices yesterday died of a heart attack, but the Presidential Office had yet to decide whether a replacement would be named.
Fa Chi-pin, 52, a law professor of National Chengchi University, was rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack at his Taipei home at around 6 a.m., and doctors at Jenai Hospital pronounced him dead at about 710 a.m.
Fa was among 15 law professors and judges nominated in May to the Council of Grand Justices by President Chen Shui-bian, who at the time was expecting parliament to complete the screening of the nominations by the end of this month.
