The police yesterday dispersed Kampala International University (KIU) students who had marched to Parliament, demanding to meet the Speaker, Edward Ssekandi.

The police said that the students had no permission to demonstrate.

"This move is illegal. You have to leave this place immediately, otherwise we shall chase you with tear gas," a police officer threatened them at Parliament.

The students later camped at the Ministry of Education headquarters at Embassy House.

The students are protesting increments in tuition fees and the suspension of their leaders.
