SYDNEY, June 1 Asia Pulse - US doughnut maker Krispy Kreme will open its first store outside north America in Sydney's western suburbs today.
The latest belt-loosening US food franchise to hit Australia aims to be the "company everyone in Australia wants to work for".
Krispy Kreme Australia Pty Ltd chairman Lawrence Maltz, an ex-Starbucks executive, said the Penrith store would be the first of three or four to open in Sydney by the end of 2003.
He said Krispy Kreme would bring "theatre" to the Australian doughnut industry, predicting the automated doughnut maker will be a hit with children.
Factory stores would also offer the first doughnut drive-through service in Australia.
Some 7.5 million doughnuts are sold in the United States and Canada every day.
