Hong Kong reported no new SARS cases and one death from the respiratory virus, the health department said, buoying hopes the hard-hit city could soon be removed from the list of affected areas.

It was the fourth consecutive day the city has reported no new Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) infections and comes as the WHO executive director of communicable diseases, Dr David Heymann, arrived in the city for a two-day visit Sunday.

The latest fatality, of a 43-year-old woman who did not have previous illnesses, took the death toll in the city to 295 from 1,755 infections, it said.
