Think turnover where you work is bad? Since 1996, the Yankees have gone through 38 left fielders. The Dodgers have tried 22 center fielders since the 1998 season began. When such a problem spot arises, managers can wear themselves out looking for solutions. Often, the search is carried on by a successor. Former Rangers manager Jerry Narron, for example, used 12 left fielders last season after Rusty Greer was lost to injury. New manager Buck Showalter already has tried three others at the position, the latest being rookie Mark Teixeira. Other managers have been more fortunate this season, and a few of the revolving doors have stopped spinning.

History: The team has bought everything but a good left fielder.
Solution: It was supposed to be Hideki Matsui. but an injury to Bernie Williams forced "Godzilla" to center--for now.
