Nani Gopal Pal in Purulia June 5. - There was a time when Purulia was known for its good roads not only in Bengal, but in the eastern region of the country. The present situation is, however, far from that glorious past. The concerned authorities are not serious about maintaining roads which need repair, as well as building new ones. An uncomfortable and tedious journey of more than six hours covers the 323 km distance from Howrah to Purulia by train. Adding to the woes, train services between Howrah and Purulia are not frequent.
