CANBERRA, June 1 Asia Pulse - Plans to overhaul media ownership seemed unlikely to pass through the Senate to become law, Labor said yesterday.
Opposition communications spokesman Lindsay Tanner said Labor remained absolutely opposed to the government's legislation.
He said he believed the independents would likely block it.
The government's proposals would ease limits on foreign ownership and free up restrictions on owning only one newspaper, radio or television holding in the same city.
The government needs four extra votes in the Senate for the bill to become law, with Labor and the Australian Democrats not convinced it is on the right track.
Mr Tanner today predicted its downfall.
