TOKYO, June 2 Asia Pulse - A government-industry-academic group plans to develop standard technology to connect IC chip-based "electronic tags" with the next-generation Internet, in a drive to help consumers easily gather information on items that have been tagged, such as food and other products.
The participants will conduct the first test next year, sources close to the matter said.
The Posts and Telecommunications Ministry has established a study forum to push the project, which will involve 22 private companies, including Sony Corp. (TSE:6758), Aeon Co. (TSE:8267), Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (TSE:6752), and the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (TSE:9432) group.
