SEOUL, June 2 Asia Pulse - South Korea's exports rose only 4.4 per cent year-on-year in May, while its trade surplus reached US$1.26 billion, a provisional government tally showed yesterday.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said customs-cleared exports amounted to US$14.79 billion last month, compared with US$14.17 billion in the same period a year ago.
It was the first time in 11 months that the nation recorded a single-digit export growth rate.
In comparison, imports grew 6.5 per cent year-on-year to US$13.53 billion in May, resulting in a trade surplus of US$1.27 billion.
