SEOUL, June 2 Asia Pulse - South Koreans' first quarter overseas credit card bills dropped 3.6 per cent from the last quarter of 2002 to US$610 million, the Bank of Korea said Sunday.
The number of Koreans who used credit cards abroad also fell 1.6 per cent to 1.11 million, the central bank said.
Overseas credit card use recorded the second consecutive quarter-to-quarter decline and marked the first time since 2000 that first quarter use fell from the previous quarter.
"Koreans' overseas credit card use fell due to the prolonged economic slump and the fallout from severe acute respiratory syndrome," it said.
