KHON KAEN, Thailand, June 2 Asia Pulse - Senior officials from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, including Taiwan, adopted an action plan on Friday to fight severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
The action plan requests that the APEC members should immediately use the forum's relevant network to share experience and information in the battle against SARS and eliminate the epidemic as soon as possible.
The senior officials of the APEC member economies gathered at a meeting held Friday at Khon Kaen, Thailand to discuss issues regarding SARS-prevention and anti-terrorism.
According to Tung Kuo-yu, director-general of the international organization department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the head of a Taiwanese delegation to the meeting, the anti-SARS action plan will take effect after the APEC trade ministers' discussions.
Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Yi-fu is heading an official delegation to the 2003 APEC trade ministers' meeting to be held June 1-3 at Khon Kaen.
