Closer Troy Percival went on the D.L with a hip injury. He had hoped to pitch through the discomfort because it wasn't an arm or shoulder problem, but the team acted cautiously. Manager Mike Scioscia will choose his temporary closer on a situational basis, but the leader of the committee will be RHP Brendan Donnelly, who had allowed only one earned run entering the week. Donnelly, who averages roughly a strikeout an inning, throws in the low 90s, and, more important, gets good movement. Donnelly has moved ahead of RHP Francisco Rodriguez in the pitching hierarchy.
