A South Korean navy boat fired warning shots as North Korean fishing vessels intruded into the tense inter-Korean sea border in the Yellow Sea, military officials said.
"Our navy boat fired warning shots this morning after three North Korean fishing boats violated our waters off the west coast," a defense ministry official told AFP.
He said details would be disclosed later. Other military officials said the shots were aimed at preventing a conflict with North Korean troops.
South Korean navy boats have been on alert against North Korean boats which crossed the Northern Limit Line (NLL) border in the Yellow Sea almost daily last week in search of crabs.
