STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE CHENNAI, May 31. - Chennai Corporation workers today began pulling down three floors of the eight-storeyed building on Bishop Wallers Avenue. The corporation has issued show-cause notices to Shanthi Builders, promoters of the building, and Sridevi, a partner in the venture.

The corporation ordered demolition of the three floors under Section 258 (Precaution in case of dangerous structures) of Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919, after the building developed cracks. The stilt (car park area) and four storeys are permitted on the 33-ft broad Bishop Wallers Avenue. But the builders put up an extra three floors, claiming they had received permission from Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) under the "regularisation" scheme.
