Agencies SINGAPORE, May 31. - SARS has finally loosened its grip on Asia. Singapore was officially removed today from the list of countries with recent local transmissions of SARS, boosting the city-state's efforts to revive its ailing tourism and related industries. Also, Beijing planned to reopen all entertainment venues, gymnasiums and internet cafes as China inched closer to 'zero new case'.
The WHO changed Singapore's status after it went without a new case of SARS infection in 20 consecutive days, but the island's government reacted with caution.
"It is a recognition of the comprehensive and rigorous measures that have been put in place in Singapore," the health ministry said in a statement late yesterday.
"Notwithstanding the WHO announcement, there will be no pause in our efforts to contain the disease and prevent any export of the disease beyond our shores," ...
