Run Silent, run fast: Take aims for 4th victory in Japan Derby

Yomiuri

There are good signs ahead of today's Japan Derby for Yutaka Take. And it's coming from the other side of the Pacific.

Take has the most Derby victories in the history of Japanese racing with three, including his win last year aboard favorite Tanino Gimlet. He also won in 1999 and 1998 with Admire Vega and Special Week, respectively.

In all three years that Take won the Derby, the first two legs of the American Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, were won by the same horse. Real Quiet accomplished the feat in 1998, Charismatic in 1999 and War Emblem in 2002.

And this year, Funny Cide has swept to the double with the Belmont Stakes to go.
