Quit-smoking program for kids launched
Yomiuri
To mark World No-Tobacco Day on Saturday, a doctor in Nara Prefecture launched an Internet program that aims to help primary, middle and high school students quit smoking.
One in four male third-grade high school students is believed to smoke on a daily basis, even though it is illegal for under-20s to buy cigarettes.
The Quit Smoking Marathon program is thought to be the first program in this nation aimed at helping juvenile smokers stub out their habit.
Yuko Takahashi, medical professor of Nara Women's University in Nara Prefecture, organized the program.
