Nation's Korean schools to revise texts
Yomiuri
As abduction and nuclear development issues have made international society critical of North Korea, Korean schools in Japan are revising their textbooks to distance themselves from Pyongyang, according to teachers.
According to a panel of teachers of Korean schools attended by children of pro-Pyongyang residents in Japan, 118 books for primary, middle and high school students will be revised over the next three years, with the help of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).
Some revisions will be made to books on contemporary history.
A course titled "Modern North Korean Revolutionary History" is currently taught in the third year of middle school and for three years of high school. The course is pro-Pyongyang as it starts with the birth of Kim Il Sung in 1912 and mainly covers episodes glorifying the former leader and the current leader Kim Jong Il.
