MUMBAI: Savita Ambedkar, the wife of Babasaheb Ambedkar, died in J.J. Hospital on Thursday morning after a prolonged illness.

She was 94. She is survived by her grandson and RPI leader Prakash Ambedkar.She was cremated with full state honours at Dadar's Chaityabhoomi later in the evening.

'Mai' Ambedkar (as she was fondly called) had been admitted to hospital on April 19 for pneumonia. Her condition deteriorated last week and she became unconscious since May 22.
