Taipei, May 29, 2003 (CENS)--Supra Opto Inc., a light emitting diode (LED) joint venture between Taiwan's Procomp Informatics Ltd. and Sumitomo Electric of Japan, will begin volume production of zinc-selenide (ZnSe) white-light LEDs next month. Supra is the world's first supplier of white-light LEDs using ZnSe chips. Its parent companies plan to win 30% of the world market for white-light LEDs with the patented diodes. The company's diode, unlike other suppliers', does not use fluorescent powder to give off white light. Nor does it bundle red chip, blue chip and green chip on one module to generate white light.
