IN any conflict it is critical always to leave room for manouvre. Dialogue also becomes quite handy in achieving concensus and charting a way forward.
It does not help matters when one of the players in the conflict takes a rigid stand.
Since President Mwanawasa constituted the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) the country has seen some of the most heated debates, in some cases gatherings almost coming to physical confrontation.
Sometimes this is expected, but in a democracy it is unnecessary to turn to blows as a way to resolve issues.
But as time is building the debate is developing and this is good. Constitutions are critical documents and it is imperative that as many people as possible take part in discussing the process of writing them.
Yesterday, President Mwanawasa reiterated his desire to see a people-driven Constitution and appealed to stakeholders with views to submit to the commission on the way forward.
