The risk for preterm labor was significantly increased in women with a history of induced abortion, with the magnitude of risk increasing with the number of induced abortions, French investigators reported.
This finding comes from a review of medical records as well as interviews with 12,432 women during their postpartum hospitalization in 1995. Of these women, 1,501 had a history of one induced abortion, 248 had two induced terminations, and 67 had undergone at least three terminations (Br. J. Obstet. Gynaecol. 108[10]:1036-42, 2001).
