Pinocchio Directed by and starring Life is Beautiful's Roberto Benigni, this self-indulgent version of the classic Italian fairytale is, simply put, insufferable. The Italian Oscar-winner had long dreamed of doing a Pinocchio remake; unfortunately, virtually no expense was spared in fulfilling what becomes our nightmare. Does it really take $45 million to retell the tale of the lonely, childless shoemaker Gepetto who fashions a puppet out of wood? True, when Pinocchio tells a lie, his nose grows, but The Matrix this is not. Perhaps a major cost was paying the Hollywood B-list to provide the voices for the dubbed American version? Oddly …
