Buenos Aires, 20 May: The education minister-designate, Daniel Filmus, has great academic prestige and is on very good terms with the teachers' unions. He has served as secretary of education in the City of Buenos Aires since 6 August 2000.

People who know about this area describe Filmus's relations with the teachers' unions as "excellent". His designation as minister of education drew praise from the director of CTERA [Confederation of Education Workers of the Argentine Republic], Martha Maffei.
