Who should supervise money-lenders?

WHO should be responsible for licensed money-lenders? Should it be the current Housing and Local Government Ministry, or the Finance Ministry or the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry? This has been an on-going debate in the country.

Marimuthu, Fomca secretary-general, has suggested that the supervision of licensed money-lenders be under the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

"Money-lenders, who represent an important small credit facility, should rightly come under the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and not the Ministry of Housing and Local Government," he said.
