Los Angeles, May 16 - New Zealand is spending far less money promoting itself to North Americans as a tourist destination than smaller, almost Third World countries, a key Australian airline executive said here today.

On the eve of the largest gathering of American travel and tourism personnel to learn about New Zealand as a tourism destination, Qantas vice-president (North America) Wally Mariani said it was a difficult task promoting New Zealand to American holiday-makers.
