Geneva, 15 May: A high-ranking World Health Organization (WHO) official responsible for global disease prevention said Thursday [15 May] that the current increasing number of SARS cases in Taiwan is a natural development.

David L. Heymann, executive director of the WHO's Department of Communicable Diseases, also pointed out that this is an encouraging sign as it indicates that Taiwan's anti-SARS measures have become more rigorous and coordinated.

Heymann made the remarks while responding to questions raised by the Central News Agency regarding the SARS situation in Taiwan.
