On Tuesday, Nana Nsiah, the Inspector General of Police met the press to interact with them about the state of the Ghana Police Service and other issues.

The IGP disclosed that by 2004, Ghana would have 20,000 policemen, which means Ghana's population of just over 20 million is being policed by a service of less than 20, 000 officers. No wonder that they often seem incapable of providing the services expected of them.

As we await 2004 to come for the police to have an appreciable complement of staff, the IGP could institute little cost-free measures to make his service more efficient.
