LUCKNOW: Dwindling greenery is a sad commentary on Lucknow, once known as a city of gardens. Notwithstanding the fact that it is the PM's constituency, it is nowhere near to the country's best Bangalore as far as its green cover is concerned. Ironically, it is also rated no better than other cities in UP.

Lack-lustre greenery speaks of the government's neglect. A walk under the scorching sun these days by city roads occasionally dotted by trees is a test of endurance. Figures drawn from the forest department show that on an average there are three to four trees per hectare. The total green cover …
