US forces capture wanted Iraqi; Bush unveils new civilian chief.

US officials said they had captured another member of Saddam Hussein's regime, after unveiling a counter-terrorism expert as the top civilian official to oversee efforts to rebuild a shattered Iraq.

An Australian newspaper reported that it had been handed a tape purportedly recorded on Monday in which Saddam urges Iraqis to remain loyal and join the battle against US forces occupying the country.

Amid ongoing efforts to rebuild and democratise Iraq, US President George W. Bush on Tuesday named L. Paul Bremer, known as Jerry, as the country's top civilian official.

He will oversee both Jay Garner, the retired general running day-to-day rebuilding in Iraq, and Zalmay Khalilzad, the White House envoy working with political groups to form a new government.
