These are crucial questions when examining the compatibility of faculty jobs and family life. Sociology professor Dr. Jerry A. Jacobs and doctoral student Sarah E. Winslow of the University of Pennsylvania set out to answer these and related questions using data from the 1992 and 1998 National Survey of Post-Secondary Faculty and the 1990 U.S. census. They focused on faculty in four-year schools.
