TAIPEI, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - The problem of widening wealth inequality in the country is reflected in the financial status of office workers in their 30s, with the gap expected to become increasingly wider in the future, according to the results of a survey released Tuesday.
The survey was conducted by the 30 Monthly magazine in late September.
The survey found that 10 per cent of office workers in their 30s make more than NT$1 million (US$30,104) per annum, while 65 per cent receive an annual income of less than NT$600,000.
After analyzing pay adjustments, results of investment and financial confidence of the respondents, the survey shows that the rich are becoming richer while the middle-class is seeing its status downgraded.
Among the respondents whose annual income exceeds NT$1 million, 56.7 per cent have received a pay hike over the past year, compared with only 32.5 per cent among those who earn less than NT$600,000 a year, according to the survey.
