Driver faces seven traffic charges

ENGLEWOOD -- A 20-year-old man accused of driving drunk Friday led authorities on a car and foot chase that ended with the man's arrest.

A Charlotte County sheriff's deputy said he spotted Gerald A. Strom, of the 8100 block of Archie Street, speeding north on Placida Road at 2 p.m. Strom refused to pull over, and instead turned into a construction area and nearly ran over workers, according to a sheriff's report.

Strom eventually stopped, but kicked a deputy and ran when they tried to arrest him, the report said. Deputies said they found him, in his underwear, wading in nearby Oyster Creek.
