BRATISLAVA, May 1 (CTK) - May Day celebrations in the centre of Bratislava, which were attended by several hundred, mainly elderly, people, was marked by sharp criticism of the war in Iraq.

Representatives of the Communist Party of Slovakia (KSS) also criticised the allegedly anti-social policy of the right-wing government coalition.

In Liptovsky Mikulas, central Slovakia, a May Day demonstration was staged by the trade unions which intend to start a series of protests against the lowering living standards after a referendum on Slovakia's entry to the European Union scheduled for May 16-17.
