By losing to the Blue Jays last Sunday, the Royals blew an opportunity to finish April at or above .800. That left the Yankees as the only team with a chance to accomplish the rare feat since the beginning of divisional play in 1969, and not counting the strike-shortened '95 season, just seven teams have pulled it off.
How does that translate to future success? Only one of the seven, the 1987 Brewers, missed the playoffs, finishing third in the A.L. East.
