SEOUL, May 1 Asia Pulse - Hyundai Asan Corp. today said it will withdraw some of its workforce from North Korea's Mount Geumgang resort because the inter-Korean tourism business is suspended because of SARS fears.
"Later today, 170 workers, including 62 Korean-Chinese, will return to South Korea," a Hyundai Asan official said.
"The ethnic Koreans and Philippine workers will return to their home countries until the SARS scare dies down."
After their withdrawal, 157 Hyundai Asan workers, including about 90 Korean-Chinese, will remain at the resort.
Hyundai Asan officials said the company had no choice but to reduce its workforce in order to minimize expenses for meals and other stipends.
