MELBOURNE, May 1 Asia Pulse - Australia's largest wind farm development is set to go ahead with the Victorian government announcing planning approval today for the $A270 million (US$168.75 million) Portland Wind Energy Project, in the state's south-west.
State and Regional Development Minister John Brumby said the announcement would allow project developer Pacific Hydro to commence construction before the end of the year.
The 180-Megawatt project will involve the construction of 120 wind generators at Cape Bridgewater, Cape Nelson, Cape Sir William Grant and Yambuk.
Mr Brumby said it would provide enough pollution-free electricity to power 100,000 homes.
