THE BANGKOK POST
- Suvarn Valaisathien, former deputy commerce minister, has been approached by creditors of Thai Petrochemical Industry to help co-ordinate restructuring talks.
- Special events and hotel discounts of up to 60 per cent are planned to position the Hua Hin/Cha-am area as golf and spa destination during the coming low tourism season.
- Siam City Cement Plc (SCCC) is investing two billion baht in a wholly owned subsidiary, Conwood Co, to produce fibre cement, a new product used as a wood substitute.
- Siam Cement Plc has realised a 139 per cent gain in net profit in the first three months of the year on the back of strong sales but has cautioned that second-quarter growth may contract amid shrinking overseas orders of petrochemical products and the spread of SARS.
- The Bank of Thailand has maintained its growth forecast of 3.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent for 2003, but has increased its projections for next year by one full point to 4.5 per cent to 6 per cent.
