When William Cyr climbs into a helicopter to make an emergency medical run, he brings information from nearly a dozen medical reference books along with his company's standard orders of care. All these voluminous books would make for a rather cramped flight if it wasn't for the fact that all this information fits neatly in just one of Cyr's pockets.
Cyr stores all this data on his personal digital assistant. He routinely uses the PDA during flight service, which averages 12 to 16 calls per day. About 25% of calls involve transporting patients from accident sites; the remainder entail transferring patients between medical facilities.
