Deep in winter when temperatures around the two outdoor municipal pools in Cedar Falls, Iowa, hover at zero, Bruce Verink and his staff are thinking warm thoughts--about how, months earlier, they had developed a plan to improve their aquatics program for the coming summer.
Recreation Division Manager Verink makes good use of the off-season to develop popular, and profitable, aquatics programs for Cedar Falls. "We begin planning as early as mid-August," he says. The early start gives him and his team a jump on the new year, with some portions of the plan implemented as early as January.
