To investigate the reasons for increased levels of physical inactivity among girls during adolescence, Canadian researchers conducted focus groups with 73 15-16-year-old girls from ethno-culturally diverse backgrounds living in Toronto. Participants in the seven focus groups received information about healthy levels of physical activity before being asked to discuss the factors which they perceived as inhibiting them from participating in physical activity.
