In light of concerns about the adequacy of 'training and clinical experience in the addiction field within medical student curricula', this longitudinal study examined a cohort of New Zealand medical students' knowledge, skills and attitudes towards alcohol and drugs as they progressed through their training (mean age in sixth year: 24.3 years).
