Henrik Zetterberg is having a great rookie season for the Red Wings. Blues defenseman Barret Jackman has exceeded expectations. The Blue Jackets' Rick Nash and the Blackhawks' Tyler Arnason have put up good offensive numbers. But my pick from a packed field for the 2003 Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) goes to Stars center Niko Kapanen.
Through the weekend, Kapanen had a rookie-best 27 assists and a plus-22. He was tied for fifth in rookie scoring. But the numbers don't tell the whole story.
